The FID
Thousands of years ago, herds of nomads scavenged the earth for food and mating rights. Through the success of his ancestors, The FID was born in the last quarter of of the 20th Century A.D.. Unaware of the horrific plight of his ancestors, The FID decided to take Music as his life trade.
The Fid (a.k.a. Matt Fidler) was born into a musical family with an ear for
sound. He got his first 4-track Cassette Deck when he was 14 years old which
he used to produce many albums worth of musical material for himself and others
around him. At 18, he attended California State University, Chico as a Music
Major with an option in Recording Arts where he studied under the advisement
of Audio Engineers Keith Seppanen and Joe Alexander. There he took to creative
music mixing and sound design. Upon graduation, Matt wondered around California
looking for his career path. Eventually he settled in the San Francisco Bay
Area as an Independent Audio Contractor working on projects varying from,
Audio Post-Production on Short and Feature Length films to Recording, Mixing
& Mastering of projects in Rock, Classical, Hip-Hop, Jazz and Spoken Word.
Recently, the Fid has delved himself in the Public Radio world where he is
the Assistant Producer to EarthSongs and UnderCurrents where he edits his
brains out several days a week. Also, in the radio world, he produces short
"Vox-Pop" musical pieces dealing with Current Events called, "News
Dub."
The Fid joined up with Billy in 2003 as a musical recording experiment between
two different types of song writers. T.doyle had a more metal/experimental
chamber music style, while Matt Fidler wrote in a more melodic Beatle-esq
way. Their first composition was entitled, "All Together Now" and
was a sound scape of different tones from guitars, basses, vocals, drum machines
and a Yamaha DX7 Synthesizer. It was a wacky piece and set the tone for Billy
and the Fid, that we would have no boundaries, and would be only limited by
our own musical demons. Because of this, we've been through many musicians
who have added immeasurable contributions to our performances and recordings.
This is the point, where I'd like to personally thank them in no particular
order: Brandon Sutter, Drew Yurkov, Jeff Leddy, Shamus (the salty
one) and Cal Keaoola.
